Fly fishing involves the use of artificial flying insects made of hair, fur, tinsel, rubber and other materials. These flies look like mayflies on the surface of the water and attract fish that rise to the surface to feed. The course will be approximately 2 hours long starting with a short introduction in the clubhouse, then outside to cast on the lawn, then practice casting at the pond. Participants will learn how to present to fish, stringing a line on a rod, tie a basic knot to hold the fly to the leader-demonstrated with a rope, the basic casting stroke, rhythm of the straightforward back-and-forth cast & the roll cast. We will also demonstrate hip, waste and chest waders & boots, the wading staff and belt for safety, the landing net to not harm fish in catch & release. All tackle and equipment will be provided. Wear sturdy shoes. This event is cosponsored by the Department of Natural Resources. There is no cost for this event. Signup HERE
